A great 1988 Italian movie about love, cinema, youth and aging. It won the Academy award for best foreign language movie and the Grand Prize of Jury at Cannes among many international recognitions.
Set and filmed for the major part in Sicily in the towns of: Bagheria, Castelbuono, Cefalù, Chiusa Sclafani, Lascari, Palazzo Adriano, Santa Flavia and also in Palermo and Rome. The Sicilian town of Giancaldo that appears in the movie is fictional.
Curiosities: scenes from the movie have been used in the advertising for the launch of the new Fiat 500. During the movie, in the Cinema Paradiso are played some of the most famous films of all times: Casablanca, Gone with the wind, I vitelloni, Stagecoach, Umberto D., Der Blaue Angel and many others.
