Three Coins in the Fountain

A light and enjoyable US comedy of the 50s. It won two Oscars (Best Cinematography, Best Original Song) and was nominated for other two (Best Picture, Best Director).

It was filmed in Rome, Tivoli and Venice, with a beautiful photography and some spectacular views as you will see also from the opening scenes. The title refers to the tradition saying that if you throw a coin in the Trevi fountain you will be sure to come to Rome again, or even more generally that throwing the coin will make a wish come true.

The movie introduced the song "Three coins in the fountain" that was a great success interpreted by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, among others.

A curiosity: despite the title, we actually see only two coins thrown in the fountain. Giorgio claims that he had thrown the third one.

Directed by Jean Negulesco and produced by 20th Century Fox. Starring: Clifton Webb, Dorothy McGuire, Jean Peters, Louis Jourdan, Maggie McNamara and Rossano Brazzi. Music by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn. USA 1954. Duration 102 minutes. IMDB Rating 6.2/10
