Auditorium in Ravello

The new auditorium of Ravello has been inaugurated today.

Designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, has been completed after 10 years of delays and debates ... actually a process that will sound familiar with anyone who followed the opening of the Maxxi Museum in Rome or other new buildings made by famous architects in Italy.

For long time environmentalists opposed the realization of the work claiming it would have ruined the nature and aesthetics of the Amalfi coast. On the other side, the Ravello Music Foundation wanted to have a space for hosting music events year round. Until today, the Ravello Music Festival had wonderful outdoor concert locations available only in summertime.

Anyway it surely seems spectacular regardless of the problems in getting the work done, and I don't know how many other theatres in the world can guarantee a view as gorgeus as the one on the Amalfi coast !

The theatre can host 400 people and costed Euro 18.5 million.
