Pompeii By Bike !

Did You Ever Ride Your Bike Through An Ancient Roman City ? Now You Can

Starting May 29 it will be possible to explore the Pompeii archaeological area by bicycle.

Pompeii was a city of more than 20,000 people when the Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and the archaeological site has the same extension of the city itself, so the possibility to tour such a large place with a bicycle sounds really great !

The new cycling way goes through the vast site and has panoramic viewpoints on the archaeological area. The path is 5 kilometers long (about 3 miles) and allows to reach some of the domus (ancient Roman homes) that only recently have been opened to the public: the house of Obellius Firmus and the house of Marcus Lucretius Fronto.

The house of Fronto is one of the most magnificent of Pompeii. It is nicknamed "the art gallery"  because of the great richness of its decorations. But also many other attractions are within the reach of this bike tour, like the famous Villa of the Mysteries or the house of Menander, one of the few homes that had its own private thermae.

It will be possible to use own bicycles or to rent them, and the sweet thing is the price is included in the cost of the regular ticket.

Itinerary: Piazza Anfiteatro - Porta Sarno - Porta Nola - Porta Vesuvio -Torre di Mercurio- Porta Ercolano -Villa dei Misteri and return back to Piazza Anfiteatro
