Another surprise

On Via Ostiense an ancient representation of Saint Paul has been discovered by Vatican archeologist on June 19th, right at the end of the Anno Paolino (Saint Paul's year).

It is considered to be the oldest icon of the apostle ever found.

It came to light during restauration works in the Santa Tecla catacombs thanks to a new laser cleaning technology.

Probably a private family wanted to put his image on the funeral room of their tomb for protection. Estimated datation: 4th century

About in the same days the Pope revealed that bone fragments dating back to the first century have been found in a tomb in the basilica of Saint Paul.

The timing of these discoveries just few days before Saint Peter and Paul's day (29 June) also might be telling that the Vatican is somewhat adapting some marketing techniques in this era of Angels and DemonsĀ
