Checkmate Julius Caesar !

Over time Ancient Rome has been the inspiration of products of all sorts: from fashion to videogame from houseware to jewelry, you will find on the market a great abundance of stuff made thinking about the time of Julius Caesar.

But among all available items, one that really you shouldn't miss is the world of chess made in ancient Rome style.

For the luxury addicted there is this fabulous set in fake gold and silver, costing 264.50  USD.

I am sure you will greatly appreciate these fine bust-style chessmen. It is available on www.chesszone.com

If you prefer something more colorful and realistic you can try this one. Really not expensive at just 139.57 US, including 15'' walnut chess board.

You can find it on www.pmpproducts.com along with other marvellous items.  Isnt' the lion piece in the green set absolutely adorable ?

Although I personally prefer the full figures, here is another fantastic set with bust-style pieces. Extremely elegant. It is available on www.madeinfirenze.it and will cost you a mere 190 Euro

Another outstanding set offered by www.pmpproducts.com. You could have it for 327 USD but sadly is currently sold-out

I am vintage addict, so my favourite one is this 1963 set. You will find-it on ebay at various prices.

Just for the record, chess was not known to ancient Romans. It is believed that a similar game appeared in India in the 6th century. It arrived to Europe in the 11th century and evolved in what is modern chess during the 16th century.

Unfortunately, at the moment we do not offer anything related to chess. But should you take an Ancient Rome tour we will surely find you a guide who at least knows how to play !
