Americans in Florence

Americans in Florence - Sargent and the American Impressionists - is an exhibition opening today at Palazzo Strozzi. The show coincides with the 500th anniversary of the death of Amerigo Vespucci, and celebrates the strong cultural links between the Old and New Worlds.

The exhibition is focused around Sargent and the American painters who lived in Italy between the end of the 19th and dawn of the 20th centuries. These artists were part of a rather large American colony living in Florence, a community that remained in the city and flourished since then. Featured artists include: William Morris Hunt, John La Farge, Tomas Eakins, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, James Abbott McNeill Whistler.

The exhibition is at Palazzo Strozzi, open every day 9.00 - 20.00 and Thurdays 9.00 - 23.00.

Price 11,10 Euro

Open until 15 July 2012
