Sweet Deceptions

Dolci Inganni, Sweet Deceptions, is a 1960 Italian movie directed by Alberto Lattuada.

The film narrates about a 17 year old Roman girl who is starting to experience love  and its emotional and physical implications. The character  is interpreted by a beautiful Catherine Spaak who’s popularity started with this movie.

It is a delicate story, set in the social ambience of the Italian Capital of the early 60s, depicting characters coming from various classes: bourgeoisie, aristocracy and simpler people. The director has a gentle yet not shallow touch in addressing the psychological implications of the love affair between the young girl and a mature divorced man who is friend of the family since she was a small child.

It is entirely filmed in Rome and surroundings. In the beginning, there is a scene took on one of the most beautiful terraces of Rome: the place is located on the building right in front of the Aracoeli, and from there it can be seen Piazza Venezia, the Vittoriano Monument, the Theatre of Marcellus and the Synagogue (see the video in this page).

Outside Rome, the filming locations include the town of Marino and the lake of Nemi.

The film made scandal at its appearance and was banned by the Italian censoring authority in 1961. The initial scene was almost entirely cut by 11 minutes. It reappeared in integral version only in 1963.
